MEET THE STORYTELLER
DEJAUJHNBLACK
Writer. Director. Storyteller.
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
CABRINI-GREEN
1995
Dejaujhn Black is a Chicago born writer, director, and storyteller who believes Black stories deserve more than realism alone. Through magical realism and expansive worldbuilding, he creates space for Black people to be everything and anything they can imagine.
Raised across Chicago’s South and East sides, Black draws inspiration from the beauty, contradictions, and imagination of the communities that shaped him. His work centers Black women and Black queer people, exploring the complexities of their identities, relationships, and shared worlds through stories rooted in reality but unafraid to defy it.
Black is drawn to what happens when the impossible becomes possible, when history doesn’t get the final word, and when Black people are free to occupy the entire frame.
He is currently developing his debut feature film and original television series, laying the foundation for Dejaujhn Black Pictures, a home for bold, imaginative stories that refuse to play small.
Different stories. Different worlds. The same DNA.
